# How to talk to existing clients

How to open the conversation, and where to go deeper.

{% hint style="info" %}

## The biggest mistake is over-explaining

Clients don't need to understand the mechanics. Lead with what it saves them, keep it simple, and let them ask if they want more.
{% endhint %}

**The biggest mistake advisors make is over-explaining.** The more you explain how it works, the more questions you create. Lead with the outcome.

### Open with the savings

Don't open with the product. Open with what it does for them.

> "I found a way to lower what you're paying on that loan. Same borrowing, lower rate, and unlike now, the interest would be tax deductible. Want me to run the numbers?"

Then run their actual numbers in the Proposal Center and show them. The dollar figure does the selling.

### Cover what they care about, skip what they don't

Clients want three answers: how much they'll save, what they have to do, and what it means at tax time. Cover those and stop. [What clients need to know →](/serving-existing-clients-deep-dive/what-clients-need-to-know.md)

### Avoid the mechanics

If they ask how it works, one sentence is usually enough:

> "It's a way to borrow on the open market instead of from a bank, which is why the rate is lower."

If they want more than that, they'll ask. If you need assistance in the meeting, feel free to contact your dedicated SyntheticFi rep or reach out to [operations+lms@syntheticfi.com](mailto:operations@syntheticfi.com) or (510) 867-3698.

## Got a client who wants to go deep?

A SyntheticFi expert can join the call to walk through the mechanics, the tax treatment, and the risks, so you're never the one on the spot. Message your SyntheticFi contact or contact [operations+lms@syntheticfi.com](mailto:operations@syntheticfi.com) to set it up.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://advisorhub.syntheticfi.com/serving-existing-clients-learn-more/how-to-talk-to-existing-clients.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
